The declaration ‘Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair’ is supposed to be triumphant, and originally was: when the statue was first built, people gazing at it were meant to look at the empire built by Rameses and be cowed into. "A world united in peace.there had to be sacrifice. 'Ozymandias' is a sonnet written by the English Romantic poet Percy Bysshe Shelley (17921822). Ozymandias was the Greek name for Rameses II, an Egyptian ruler whose empire crumbled to dust long ago. It is to signify to someone what he is and how he should conduct himself as a consequence” (Bourdiue 120), which means that by giving people ranks, it imposes things upon them such as acting a certain way to be seen as heroic. Rorschach’s concept of heroes matches Pierre Bourdieu’s notion that “to institute, to assign an essence, a competence, is to impose a right to be that is an obligation of being so (or to be so). Do what we were meant to.” To which Rorschach rebuttals, saying: “We were meant to exact justice! Everyone's gonna know what you've done.” From that exchange of ideas, you can see that Rorschach has a belief as heroes, they are obligated to act a certain way no matter the circumstances, while Ozymandias believes that being hero means doing what is best in the end for humanity. This is as much your victory as it is mine. His mind also processes information quickly, giving him an accelerated learning aptitude. But around the decaying ruin of the statue, nothing remains, only the lone and level sands, which stretch out around it. So is Ozymandias a hero or a villain? This is a question that the creators of the film make us wonder, and it is a difficult one to answer. ![]()
